After: walk-in glass shower, new vanity, mirror and tile.

What a bathroom renovation can include

  • Tub and shower surrounds: old tile and grout removed, waterproofing installed, and new tile set floor to ceiling
  • Bathroom floors: dated tile replaced with porcelain or luxury vinyl, without disturbing the tub
  • Vanities, mirrors and medicine cabinets: removed, replaced and set level
  • Glass shower doors and enclosures
  • Drywall and painting: moisture-resistant board, patched walls, and fresh paint
  • Accessories: towel bars, toilet-paper holders, shelves, and grab bars
  • Caulking and grout: re-caulking tubs and showers to stop leaks before they damage the subfloor

A tub surround makeover

Not every bathroom needs a full gut. Replacing just the tile around the tub can change the whole room for a fraction of the cost.

After: large-format marble-look tile, floor to ceiling.

Why waterproofing matters

Tile and grout are not waterproof on their own. Water gets through grout lines, and without a proper membrane behind the tile, it soaks into the drywall and framing. That's how mould and rotten subfloors start. A tub or shower surround should always have a waterproofing layer behind the tile. It's a step you can't see afterwards, so ask any contractor how they handle it.

About plumbing and electrical: Sal is a handyman, not a licensed plumber or electrician. If your project needs new wiring, a new circuit, or drains and supply lines moved, that part has to be done by a licensed trade. Sal will tell you upfront which parts of your project need one, so there are no surprises.
How pricing works for bigger projects: renovations and flooring are quoted as a project after a free on-site look, so you know the total before anything starts. Small fixes use the regular rate: $150 covers the first 2 hours, then $50 an hour. See pricing.

How the project works

  1. Text photos of the bathroom and what you'd like changed to (613) 859-1254.
  2. Free on-site look to measure and check what's behind the walls where possible.
  3. Written quote by text or email, with materials listed.
  4. Work scheduled so you know which days the bathroom will be out of use.
  5. Walkthrough and clean-up when it's done. You pay when you're happy.

Quick Answers

Common questions

How long does a bathroom renovation take?
A tub surround or floor replacement is usually a few days, because waterproofing, thinset and grout need time to cure. A full gut takes longer. You'll get a schedule with your quote.
Do you do the plumbing and electrical?
No. Sal isn't a licensed plumber or electrician. Anything that needs a licensed trade, like moving drains or adding wiring, has to be done by one, and Sal will tell you upfront which parts of your project need that.
Can you just replace the tile around my tub?
Yes. Tub-surround tile replacement is one of the most popular jobs and makes a big difference on its own.
Do I supply the tile and vanity?
Either way. You can pick everything yourself, or Sal can buy materials and add them to the quote.
Is the estimate free?
Yes. Phone estimates and on-site looks for renovation projects are free.
