Furniture Assembly in Ottawa

Flat-pack furniture built square, tight and level. Tall pieces get anchored to the wall so they can't tip, and there are no leftover screws.

What gets built

If it came in a box with an Allen key, Sal has probably built it. Common jobs around Ottawa include:

  • Dressers, wardrobes and PAX-style closet systems
  • Bed frames, bunk beds and loft beds
  • Bookcases, shelving units and TV stands
  • Desks, office chairs and filing cabinets for home offices
  • Patio sets, sheds-in-a-box and storage benches
  • Home gym equipment, cribs and change tables

Built properly, not just put together

Most flat-pack problems come from rushing: cam locks not fully turned, backs not squared, drawers that rub. A properly built piece is checked for square, the drawers and doors are adjusted to run smoothly, and the piece is set level on your floor.

Tip-over safety matters. Tall dressers and bookcases can tip if a child climbs on them or a heavy drawer is pulled out. Every tall piece gets anchored to a stud with the included tip-restraint kit, or with better hardware if the kit is flimsy.

How pricing works: $150 covers the first 2 hours on site. After that it's $50 an hour, billed to the nearest half hour. Materials are extra, and you always get the number before work starts. See full pricing.

What furniture assembly costs

A dresser or a bed frame usually takes one to two hours, so it falls inside the $150 two-hour minimum. Large wardrobes and closet systems take longer. The easiest way to get a firm number is to text the product names or links. Sal will tell you roughly how long it'll take before booking.

Moving into a new place? Book a longer block and get the whole apartment or house built in one visit. Many customers add TV mounting, curtain rods, and picture hanging to the same visit.

Before Sal arrives

  1. Bring the boxes into the room where the furniture will go, if you can.
  2. Don't open the hardware bags. That's how parts go missing.
  3. Clear enough floor space to lay out the panels.

Sal can break down the cardboard for your recycling bin. Just ask.

Move-ins, home offices and nurseries

Furniture assembly is often part of a bigger change: moving into a new condo, setting up a home office, or getting a nursery ready before a baby arrives. Instead of losing a weekend to instructions, book one visit and get the bed, dresser, desk and shelves built, the curtain rods up, and the TV on the wall. Everything is checked for wobble and anchored where it should be, so the room is ready to use the same day.

Quick Answers

Common questions

What brands do you assemble?
Any flat-pack brand: IKEA, Wayfair, Structube, Amazon, Costco, The Brick, Leon's, and more.
Will you anchor furniture to the wall?
Yes. Tall dressers, bookcases and wardrobes get anchored into a stud so they can't tip over.
How many pieces can you build in the 2-hour minimum?
It depends on the piece. Usually one large item, like a dresser or bed, or two or three smaller ones. Text the product names for an estimate.
Can you also mount the TV and hang shelves?
Yes. Mixing jobs in one visit is the best use of the two-hour minimum.
