Prep before a living-room repaint: furniture wrapped, windows taped, trim protected.

Prep is most of the job

Paint only looks as good as the wall under it. Every job starts with protecting your space and getting the surface right:

  1. Move and cover furniture, lay drop cloths, and mask trim, windows and outlets
  2. Fill holes and cracks, sand, and spot-prime the repairs
  3. Cut in the edges by hand for straight lines at the ceiling and trim
  4. Roll two coats for even colour
  5. Pull the tape, put the room back together, and clean up

Before and after: a garage door refinish

It's not just interiors. This chalky, weathered garage door was sanded, prepped, and repainted to a clean, even finish.

How pricing works: $150 covers the first 2 hours on site. After that it's $50 an hour, billed to the nearest half hour. Materials are extra, and you always get the number before work starts. See full pricing.

What painting costs

Painting is priced by time. A single accent wall or a set of doors can often be done inside the $150 two-hour minimum. A full room with ceiling and trim takes longer, depending on its size, the colour change, and how much repair the walls need. Text a few photos of the room and the colour you have in mind for an estimate.

You can choose and buy the paint yourself, or Sal can pick it up and add it to the invoice. Dark-to-light colour changes usually need an extra coat or a tinted primer.

Picking the right finish

The sheen matters as much as the colour:

  • Flat or matte for ceilings. It hides imperfections.
  • Eggshell for most walls. It wipes clean without looking shiny.
  • Satin for kitchens, bathrooms and kids' rooms, where walls get washed more often.
  • Semi-gloss for trim, doors and baseboards. It's tough and easy to clean.

Not sure? Ask when you book. Sal will suggest what works for the room.

Quick Answers

Common questions

Do you supply the paint?
Either way. You can pick the paint, or Sal can buy it and add it to the invoice. Just have the brand, colour and finish ready.
Do I need to move my furniture?
Small items and anything breakable, yes. Sal will move and cover the larger furniture.
How long does a room take?
It depends on size, colour change and wall condition. An accent wall can be a couple of hours. A full room with trim and ceiling is longer. Text photos for an estimate.
Do you repair walls before painting?
Yes. Holes, cracks and nail pops are filled and primed first. See drywall repair for bigger damage.
